As a certified McTimoney practitioner, having studied as a dog chiropractor at the McTimoney College of Chiropractic, I use methods that are safe and non-invasive. When you schedule a McTimoney chiropractic treatment for your dog, I start by carrying out an evaluation and record card.
Evaluating Your Dog Before Their First Chiropractic Treatment
Review of your dog’s health history
As a fully insured and qualified McTimoney practitioner I always work with veterinary permission and either you as the owner or your vet will have filled out my Veterinary Permission Form. Your vet will have told me any relevant medical history for your dog.
Here you can also explain to me the problems your dog has been having, their symptoms, and any other information you think I need to know.
Professional evaluation including gait analysis
I will assess your dog visually looking at their conformation, physical condition and how they move. If possible I will ask you to walk and trot your dog on a level surface so I can observe their gait.
Thorough physical examination
After the gait analysis I will feel along the spine, pelvis, joints, and musculoskeletal structure. I am looking for any abnormalities such as stiffness, spasms or misalignments in the spine and pelvis, muscle pain or tension, and any asymmetries.
Your Dog’s Chiropractic Treatment
If there are no contra-indications I will then start your dog’s Canine McTimoney Chiropractic treatment. This includes:
- Complete therapeutic treatment including McTimoney Chiropractic and individual massage session.
- Follow-up and aftercare recommendations.
The Chiropractic treatment is usually readily accepted by dogs but I’ll take my time and make sure your dog is comfortable throughout. I always make sure I have plenty of time with you and your dog so we are not rushed. After the treatment I will do some massage and stretching with your dog. I find these two treatments give the best results and will normally spend about 30 minutes doing this.
Each case is unique, so I develop individualised programs of treatments that are most beneficial for your dog. Typically, there is a series of treatments based on your animal’s needs until the dog has fully recovered from its condition.
The complete session usually lasts between 1 and 1.5 hours. Your dog will need to rest afterwards but can have a walk before the session.
