So we’re reaching the end of 2020 and what a year it has been! I’m considering myself very lucky that work has continued to be busy, so as a thank you I’m offering a free treatment for your horse or dog.
When you say ‘dog training’ most people think of puppy classes or training for a canine competition. Here at McTimoney Animal Therapy I see dogs with back pain and injury every day, but there is regular training you can do with your dog every day to help strengthen and protect your dogs back from damage.
When you are looking for someone to come and work with your horses, its sometimes hard to know what you need and what you should be looking for. All practitioners, even in the same disciplines, work slightly differently and so its important they ’get’ you and your horse for the maximum benefit. A good place to start is by understanding how different types of therapist work. So what is the difference between an equine osteopath and a McTimoney chiropractor.
I can finally return to work as an Canine Chiropractor!! There are, however, some strict guidelines that I will need everyone to abide by as safety is my top priority. When you book a treatment with me I will also email a copy of the guidelines over to you so please do follow them. Please note, I am only able to treat dogs OUTSIDE and will not be able to enter your home. The Covid-19 outbreak is far from over so lets stay safe whilst allowing your dogs to benefit from a much needed treatment.

Getting your horse checked regularly is vital as massage can be one of the very earliest signs that your horse is experiencing pain. When a horse changes its way of going, even slightly, it leads to areas of muscle spam and under use. Finding these areas early on can help you decide if a vet check is needed.
In order for a horse to perform at its best and carry the weight of a rider easily, its muscles need to be in top shape. Regular Equine Massage Therapy will ensure your horse is not only moving optimally, but is also pain free and happy.
It is sometimes hard to know how to make a dog with a slipped disk comfortable, but there are several things that you can do to help your dog at this time. Your dog getting a slipped disk, or Intervertebral Disk Disease (IVDD) can be a worrying time but with the proper care and attention most dogs can go on to live a pretty normal life.
There are lots of Equine Massage techniques you can do at home, some of these include the brilliant belly stretches. These are a great way to strengthen your horse’s back and they work a little like doing a sit-up or a crunch does for us. They work the horse’s pectorals, or ‘abs’ which then leads to a stronger back.
McTimoney for dogs is a very gentle treatment that is accepted by most dogs, even ones that are in pain. It focuses on gently releasing muscle tension in a dogs back and supporting musculature to reduce pain and discomfort and restore function to the joint. After the treatment I will perform massage to work out any remaining areas of spasm and discomfort.
People often ask “is there is an Equine McTimoney Chiropractor near me?” so I thought I’d do a post to introduce myself. My name is Emily Walters from McTimoney Animal Therapy and I am a fully trained canine and equine McTimoney Chiropractor and massage therapist based in Worcestershire.
Ice and Heat; or cryotherapy and thermotherapy, are fantastic home remedies for dog back pain as they are cheap, easy to use and commonly available. But when should you use heat and when should you use ice?
McTimoney Chiropractic and sports massage is an all over treatment designed to relieve muscle tension, gently realign your animals spine and pelvis, and reduce or eliminate pain and discomfort. So your dog is feeling fab after their treatment, what can you do to make the most of their session and care for them in between K9 chiropractor visits?
Dogs can be fearful for many reasons. Sometimes its just their nature, sometimes it is because of a bad experience, and sometimes it can be because they are in pain. So can McTimoney for dogs and sports massage help my dog?
We all know that massage is good for our mind, body and soul, but did you also know its incredibly beneficial for your horses physical and mental well being? The tasks we ask of horses can place physical stress on the body leading to muscle fatigue, strains, adhesions and pain. Learn how Sports Massage can help your horse.
As horse owners, the welfare of our horses is vitally important so how do we recognise if our horse is in pain?
All animals feel pain as they have the same neurological system as humans. It is important to be able to recognise the signs of pain so action can be taken to alleviate and prevent it.
Laminitis is a potentially fatal disease that can affect 15% of horses at some point in their lives. If your horse has been diagnosed with Laminitis it takes skill on behalf of your vet and farrier to effectively treat the problem. Laminitis occurs when the laminae within the hoof becomes inflamed and so can no longer support the coffin bone and so the weight of the horse. This can lead to the coffin bone protruding through the sole.
Lungworm is a serious infection that can be fatal to your dog if left untreated and medical advice must always be sought if your dog becomes ill.
We have all heard the saying ‘no foot, no horse’ and know that our horses feet are vitally important and need to be trimmed and possibly shod frequently to allow the horse to do the jobs we ask of them in the equine sport.
It is vitally important that the saddle that you use on your horses is a good fit for horse riding. Saddles that fit incorrectly can cause a multitude of problems from the horse not extending in their movement to physical damage to the muscles and spinous processes and behavioural problems.
